I recently discovered a picture of this temple on Pinterest and I just had to check it! Probably the most unusual temple in Taiwan and very unique in so many ways!!

My hat goes off to the people who can pump out books like crazy or who can blog daily. It not only takes commitment, but I admire their ability to avoid mental fatigue, sometimes referred to as ‘burn out!’

And even though I don’t believe I am suffering from total ‘burn out,’ I don’t feel in the mood to write blog entries these days.

Mind you, I don’t want to quit blogging either. I still have a lot to share and a lot to say. I am just not in the mood to go through the processย โ€“ to edit pictures, to document my experiences and thoughts, to spend the extra time needed on the computer.

And it could actually be because of one and/or a combination of these reasons:

~1~ I have been working so hard on my book that I don’t feel like adding more to my plate.

~2~ I completed my book on Monday and I feel a major sense of accomplishment. Thus, a little time off is well-deserved.

~3~ I have so many unfinished projects that I don’t know where to start. For example, I have posts for my Taiwan Wedding Series that were written over a year ago and still have yet not been published. Can you believe that?

~4~ I learned that life is precious and to enjoy it. And if you don’t feel like doing something, then do something you want to do. For me, that translates to getting out more and exploring. I want to spend more time outdoors, doing the things I love.

~5~ Moon Festival is just around the corner and we will have a full house this weekend. We are preparing for that. Barbecuing and hanging out with friends and family equals fun times!!

~6~ Today is our 10th Canadian anniversary and I am in celebration mode.

So, for now, I will leave you with some photos that I (or my husband) have taken lately. I am off to enjoy the rest of this gorgeous sunny day with my husband.

  1. Oh, I totally get this! As much as I would love to blog and post on social media often, I’m often bogged down by life demands..haha..I do still try to keep up somewhat but definitely not on the scale of some of the bloggers out there. I also believe I should be out there enjoying myself and time with my loved ones rather than always being online. I do try to make time nowadays for a blogging but I can’t keep up with everyone anymore..so I totally understand your feeling. On a side note, congrats on finally finishing your book! ๐Ÿ˜†

    1. You are so right! There are so many things that require our time and commitment. We need to prioritize the things that mean the most to us. If only there were more hours in a day! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And thanks. Finishing the initial draft was a huge milestone for me. Now, it is onto editing.

  2. Congratulations on your book and Canadian anniversary, Constance. Well deserved after all that hard work and you really deserve a break. I too admire those bloggers who can write and write book after book and blog post after blog post. Admittedly, coming up to my third year in blogging I am feeling burnt out, and I hope to talk about that in my next post. Sometimes a break from blogging can do you good – go out, live life, get inspired and come back recharged and ready to write with a new perspective. There’s only so much we can do and learn just sitting in one spot ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks so much, Mabel! I am very happy to have finished the initial draft – it was definitely a proud moment for me! A major accomplishment, indeed!

‘Thereโ€™s only so much we can do and learn just sitting in one spot.’

You hit the nail right on the head with that statement. Sometimes, we need to step back for awhile and get out there and live. Not only will we feel recharged, but refocused and reenergized.

I hope you are doing ok. I look forward to reading your article about burnout.

  3. It is such a delicate balance between the line where blogging changes from fun to work. I have so many goals for my blog and great things to blog about that I usually push myself to the point where blogging becomes a task but I always am satisfied when it is completed.

    Congrats on completing your book.

  4. Congratulation Constance! Great news about your book!
I just came out of a months long blogging and social media break. Well, at least I am planning on a reappearance this Sunday. For me personally many things came together and i gradually stopped blogging and posting on social media all together, a bit without noticing and all of a sudden it has been many months! Initially everything started with a very slow laptop which simply made it a pain in the behind to do any work. Adding to that the horrible Chinese internet connection and the nessecity to always login to a VPN to access any social media or wordpress blogs, just topped everything off… But I guess a these things were just the tip of the ice berg… The burn out ice berg. I felt like I had to write every week. I had to come up with amazing, informative and interesting content. I had to edit incredible photos and make my own illustrations. I put myself under so much pressure that all of a sudden all the fun was lost. I think when you feel blogging to get in your way of your life or it putting pressure on you, it is important to take a break.
I took a break without even planning to. I am still a bit unsure on how to come back. And how to avoid into falling into the same trap again.
I am definitely looking forward to start reading your blog again (and those of other people) as I had been totally out of the loop.
Wish you a happy ไธญ็ง‹่Š‚ with your family and friends ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, Anna! Finishing the initial draft was a huge milestone for me.

I am happy to hear that you are back. Sometimes a break is what is needed become re-energized and to get the creative juices flowing again. I hope you find a schedule that suits you.

Happy ไธญ็ง‹็ฏ€ to you as well.

  5. That temple looks so cool!

I think every blogger goes through phases of not wanting to blog. Sometimes life just gets in the way and editing photos feels like a chore. Too much of anything is a bad thing, I guess.

    1. Yes, that temple was pretty cool! I have an upcoming post about it planned, along with a video.

I like the way you put it – too much of anything is a bad thing. Things can get tiring and eventually loose their appeal when we focus on them for too long.

  6. 10th anniversary! The book! Looks like you’re living a great life right now. I can relate to that feeling… blogging is lots of hard work and commitment. So many interesting stories to tell, so little time and energy. But well, you’ve got a good life to live first. =)

  7. I hear you! I am in the same boat-writing a novel, working, starting a business…I just don’t have time or energy to blog every week anymore!
